Fishing with Family

Nebraska Game and Parks had a fun free fishing event for the family.

Isaac caught 4 fish and 2 got away with the worm on our hook.

It was a beautiful night spent as a family at the pond in the park (Daphne slept through it!)

Birth Story

The plan -
Be induced on the morning of April 4, 2014.

Woke up early on the morning of the 4th with contractions - strong and fairly consistent!

We dropped Isaac off with Shelly Brockhaus (fellow teacher) at 6:30.  We had to check in at the hospital at 7:00.
*** side story - Had to call the hospital at 6:15 to see if we were "able" to come in and be induced - i.e. if there was a room for us.  We got the go ahead, and I was glad since we were already having steady contractions.

Upon arriving at the hospital, we were admitted.  There was another couple there too (more on them later).  They were being induced as well.

I was having steady contractions about 2 - 4 minutes apart.  They decided to start Pitocin anyway to get the process rolling.  My nurse (who was the parent of a student in my school - awkward!) was determined to have her delivered before she left at noon.

We were already dilated to a 3 and the Pitocin took me to a 4 maybe a 5 by the time noon rolled around.  Daphne was comfortably situated on my left pelvic bone.  I had told the nurses the I wanted an epidural before my water got broken.... didn't happen.  They decided to break my water and about 30 minutes later I got an epidural - shortly before my parents arrived around noon.  She was not making much progress, but I was finally able to get some rest.   I was still not much beyond a 5 when my parents left to go pick up the big kids from school(around 3:00). I took a short nap until about 4:30

Around 4:30, the nurses decided to have me begin laying on my sides to help move Daphne into the right position for delivery.  We knew it would go fast once she decided to move.  The nurse checked me and I was still at a 5 but now fully effaced at this point.  I laid on my right side for approximately 30 minutes.  The nurse came back into the room and did a check around 5:00.  I was sitting at a solid 7 now.  We flipped over so I was laying on my left side.  Shortly after the nurse left, I began feeling intense pain.  I felt like my epidural had worn off or needed adjusting as it got so intense so quickly.  At about the same time, our contraction machine ran out of paper.  It was beeping.  It was annoying.  Now it is about 5:15.  I tell Chad that I think he needs to get a nurse.  If nothing else, I needed the beeping to stop.

The nurse comes in and I tell her how uncomfortable I am.  She starts to rotate me back to my right side and decides (at the last minute) to check me.  I was fully dilated (from 7 - 10 in about 15 minutes!) and ready to have a baby.  I remember the nurse saying "We are ready to have a baby!"  I immediately started crying and looked over at Chad.  He was intently looking at his phone, responding to a call or text .... He said "What?"  and I couldn't speak.  He asked the nurse what was going on... and she told him it was baby time.  Then he understood and got right over to my side.  Thankfully the Doctor was already en route to the hospital.  They did call him at this point to let him know we were ready.  As the room became a rush of activity, By 5:45 everyone was in my room.  We were ready to start the "process" at 5:59.  After the 2nd set of pushes (only 2 minutes in)... Dr. Stearnes mentions getting the forceps.  Chad leans in to my ear and says, "come on babe, make it a go on this one.  We don't want the forceps!"  I gave another solid push and she was here!  6:03 - and she was big!

March 22, 2014

So here we are....

Still here, still pregnant for another two weeks (at most) ....

Chad is working his 2nd to last weekend in the USAF.  He begins his terminal leave as soon as baby girl arrives!  Retirement actually occurs July 1, 2014 but he will no longer report to the base.

God is good however, because Chad begins a new job at Cintas in Omaha on April 14th.  It is for this reason that baby girl will be "evicted" no later than April 4th.  This makes mom very happy!

Chris also begins a new job - his first!  Today in fact.  He will be a server at a local restaurant here.  He is also playing in the orchestra for the High School Musical "Honk" and running track.

Shawn is getting ready for confirmation in May and finishing up the 8th grade.... whew - 2 in high school next year!  He is preparing to run track as well.

Isaac is getting ready to turn 5!  What?  How can my baby boy be this old already?  He is so excited for his baby sister to get here....hope that excitement lasts once she actually arrives!  Isaac was also enrolled to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  He was accepted into the school where I teach so we will go to school together each morning!  I am one happy momma!

Baby Girl is still kicking and cooking away in the "crockpot."  She gave us no indication as to what she will look like so we are anxious to meet this little one!  She still remains nameless.  At this point, we are at 3 cm and ready to go.... any day any time, just waiting for consistent contractions!

Momma is holding it all together.... taking a minute to whine though - this pregnancy will be our last.  There have been many trials and hurdles along our way which encourage us to have faith that our family will be complete once BG arrives.  I have been in a boot/air cast on my left foot since the Tuesday after the Super Bowl.  That in combination with general pregnancy waddling.... makes for lots of aches and pains.  I have numbness and tingling in my right hand at all times (for about the past month).  Being right handed... this makes basic tasks very difficult.  There has only been one Doctor appointment thus far which did not include needles, shots, blood draws or the like!  I have low iron as well!  As you can see... this go around... not a smooth as the last, but I am certain she will be worth every drop of pain along the way!

Sooo.... updates will be posted when she arrives.  Hoping for a birth weight below 9 lbs this time!  (Isaac was 9 lbs 7 oz).

Til then!

Leaving the Military???

Really???

We are really here?  Am I ready?   Is he ready?  Is this really happening?

With all the pending military cuts, we are contemplating a change.

As Chad prepares to start interviews and the job search life gets a little uncertain.

But then, the military keeps us hopping too.

Here goes nothing I guess!

ChristmasTines Day

My family!

We finally were able to celebrate Christmas this past weekend.  Our family has had this "joke" if you will with these Zubaz pants.

Dad had a pair when we (Annie and I) were young.  Isaac (my 4 yr old) got a pair for Christmas last year after we found a kiosk selling them in the mall.  Isaac loved matching Grandpa.

Well - Grandbaby Willow couldn't be left out... and likewise, either could Shawn and Chris.

and so the "joke" continued...which led to this picture!

LOVE THEM!
