Disclaimer - NO PICTURE POST - Sorry!
Ahhh... where to start. This has been one heck of a long weekend!
Start off with Friday - Early dismissal, grading, training, upcoming changes are pending. Things are a bit stressful at work. So glad the weekend is here. Heading to the Ramirez's to make cupcakes and have dinner (btw - YUMMY dinner!!!)
At dinner, kids sat at one table, while the adults ate at another. No big deal right? Yeah - 'cept I didn't have the opportunity to notice that Chris didn't eat. Probably wouldn't have worried me too much - he was sick this week (tues) so might have still be recovering. Also didn't notice that he didn't really eat any of the candy or his cupcakes. Might have been indicators that something was up then. Well - Bad on me... didn't notice (I was trying to keep the knife licking to a minimum with Isaac - who can blame him though cuz frosting rocks!)
Chris stays the night at their house. We go home.
Saturday - Pick up Chris at 12:15. Head home, make lunch - nothing fancy but he only at an Eggo waffle for breakfast so I figured he'd be hungry. Basically refused lunch but made him eat most of it. At this point, I figure he's just being pigheaded. (Good Call Mom!)
1:00 - Chris says he thinks a nap would help.
5:00 - Decide that he really should be getting up or he'll never sleep that night. Go down and wake him up. Thought maybe they'd stayed up late or gotten up early or both. He went to bed the night before at 12:30 and slept til 9:30. Weird. Well - hopefully the rest did him some good.
5:45 - Chad offers up going to BWW's for wings - Chris' favorite restaurant. Chris seems down or off. I question him and he says his stomach muscles hurt but he probably could eat.
6:00 - Get to BWW"s and Chris heads to the bathroom. Order food and he heads back to the bathroom. Comes back to the table when food gets there. Puts fork into food and says "I think I need to see a doctor" OKAY - something is really up! He NEVER asks to go to the doctor. I call the nurse advice line. They take our info and say they will call back.
6:30 - Leave BWW's, Phone rings, Nurse takes info about him. I expect that she will give us a referral number for the Urgent Care Clinic. Instead she says "Are you near an Emergency Room because I think you need to get him there sooner than later." Huh... I am a bit stunned. Not really how I thought it would go.
7:00 - Chad drops Chris and I off at the ER at Bellevue Med Ctr. Chris immediately goes to lay down while I get him registered. Chad runs home to get some stuff to keep Isaac busy.
7:30 - We go back. They push on his belly, he cringes with pain with every touch, nearly in tears now.
7:45 - Decide to draw blood and start an IV.
From here - the night gets a little fuzzy on times but the events were as follows (with approx times) -
Draw blood - Blood cultures - come back with elevated white counts 11.4 -
Dr. says it is really just up to Chad and I whether we want to let his body fight it for a few more days or run a CT scan now.
We go ahead with the CT scan.... the pain has been there almost a week - we've got to do something.
Chris is loopy now - Morphine kicking in - Tells nurse he was born in 1967!
I run home to get Isaac into jammies.
I get back just as they take Chris up to CT. Miss them by about 2 minutes.
They come back down from CT and we wait.
CT comes back showing that his appendix was inflamed and perforated. It needs to be removed within the next 12 hours. The ER doctor is on his way into the hospital now.
Anesthesia comes in soon after and the whole process begins for surgery prep.
Chris is scared. We are too. They talk about the possibility of having to take all organs out to flush them as it appears it might be necessary. It's now 11:30 or after. I take Isaac into an empty room to try to get him asleep.
12:15 - Chad comes to get me. We are going up to surgery NOW!
12:30 - We head upstairs. They take Chris one way and send us the other to the waiting room.
Chad and I are tired, worried, scared and nervous - we didn't listen. Can't find waiting room. head down hallway and I push on the door. Alarm sounds. We can see the waiting room on the other side. We wander the halls to try to find someone to help. NO ONE IS THERE! We dial 411 and get the number to the operator. They send our call to security. They are on their way up to find us in the hallway to help us get to the waiting area. Isaac is still awake.
12:50 - Security finds us and helps us get to the waiting area. We pull a couch into a dark quiet nook and get Isaac settled to hopefully fall asleep.
1:30 - Chris is out of surgery. Isaac has finally fallen asleep and we head up to wait for him in his room (305).
1:50 - We get to the room, meet the nurses, fill out prelim paperwork and he arrives by 2:00. Chad tells him he has to go to school... Chris says that ain't gonna happen.
2:20 - I head home with Isaac.
UGH! What a long night. We spent the day off and on at the hospital today and just got home with Chris around 9:00 tonight. He is resting and we are going to bed too. Chad has only slept bits and pieces and I got about 6 hours off and on from 3:30 - 7:00 and then again from 1:00 - 3:00.
Pray for quick healing and we will keep ya posted!
